Dow futures down … Crude rises … Nintendo gains
HONG KONG (AP) – World share benchmarks were mixed today. Wall Street is poised to open lower. Dow futures dipped 0.1 percent to 24,052.00 and broader S&P 500 futures crept less than 0.1 percent lower to 2,643.60.
NEW YORK (AP) – Oil futures extended gains. Benchmark U.S. crude oil rose 15 cents to $68.20 a barrel in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude rose 34 cents a barrel in London. The dollar slipped to 109.36 yen from 109.43 yen.
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) – Investors are awaiting word on a European Central Bank policy decision today. No changes to interest rates are expected. But markets will be watching for any hints on the outlook for the eurozone economy and future rate policy.
TOKYO (AP) – Nintendo Co. reports solid sales and profit for the fiscal fourth quarter, powered by brisk demand for its Switch machines that work as both a console and a tablet. The company also announced that it will be getting a new president.
FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) – Profits have slipped at automaker Volkswagen in the first quarter due to a change in accounting rules. But sales increased and the company recorded no significant additional losses from its diesel emissions scandal.
