BOONE, N.C. — Five members of the 2024 App State football team have been named Academic All-District selections by the College Sports Communicators organization, with one advancing as a finalist to be a candidate for CSC Academic All-America recognition.
Tight end Eli Wilson and linebacker Kyle Arnholt repeated as members of the NCAA Division I Academic All-District team while being joined this year by running back Anderson Castle, tight end Max Drag and offensive lineman Thomas Shrader.
Wilson, meanwhile, has been named an Academic All-America finalist. He earned an undergraduate degree from App State with a 3.61 GPA and had a 3.85 GPA as a graduate student in business administration during the fall semester.
Wilson received All-Sun Belt recognition in each of his final two seasons and had 12 career touchdown receptions to tie for the third-highest total among App State tight ends in program history.
During the fall semester, Arnholt was carrying a 3.62 GPA as a history major, while Drag had a 3.51 GPA as a construction management major. Castle earned his undergraduate degree at App State and carried a 3.61 GPA during the fall semester as a graduate student in business administration. Shrader also had a 3.61 GPA as a graduate student in business administration.
First-team, second-team and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced Jan. 28.
