BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State inside linebacker Jordan Fehr has been named the Sun Belt Conference’s Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in the last four games.
Leading a defense that didn’t allow any offensive points in a 23-7 win at Coastal Carolina, Fehr’s team-high eight tackles included a career-high 3.0 sacks and the primary stop on a fourth-quarter safety that gave the Mountaineers a two-possession lead. Fehr just missed a fourth sack with a quarterback hurry on the play right after his third sack.
That effort helped App State limit Coastal Carolina to 72 rushing yards (179.6 below a season average that ranked No. 9 nationally), 178 total yards and 11 first downs (the team’s previous season low was 20). He was also named the Sun Belt’s top defender by College Sports Madness.
Fehr previously was named the Sun Belt’s Defensive Player of the Week after he posted 15 tackles and a sack in a 35-9 road win against Arkansas State on Oct. 9. For the season, he has 52 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery.
