Family-Friendly Concert Kicks off the Holiday Weekend

App State’s Hayes School of Music faculty and Cannon Music Camp students team up for a celebratory concert on Thursday, July 3 at 7:30pm in Rosen Concert Hall.

BOONE, NC — Appalachian State University’s annual summer arts celebration, An Appalachian Summer, presents a family-friendly concert called Celebrating Our Country and Community Through Music, Thursday, July 3 at 7:30pm in Rosen Concert Hall. Faculty from the Hayes School of Music and talented young musicians from the 57th season of Cannon Music Camp kick off the lead-up to the United States Semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the Declaration of Independence. The concert features familiar tunes — from Gershwin and Berlin to Sousa and the Wailin’ Jennys — performed by dynamic soloists, spirited chamber groups, talented keyboardists, singers and bands, culminating in an exciting full-orchestra finale. With music that connects generations and celebrates the heart of our communities, this exuberant concert promises to entertain, educate, and inspire.

About Cannon Music Camp
Cannon Music Camp is a preview of the music major college experience, although with more structure and supervision, as campers range from 14 to 18. Much like App State students, campers eat in the dining hall, stay in a dorm, and attend music classes, lessons, and rehearsals in the same classrooms used by music students during the school year — often taught by Hayes School of Music professors. It is a fantastic way to prepare for college auditions or ensemble placement auditions.

About An Appalachian Summer

Presented by Appalachian State University’s Office of Arts Engagement and Cultural Resources, this annual celebration of the performing and visual arts is held every summer in venues across the university campus, and features a diverse mix of music, dance, theatre, visual arts, and film programming. An Appalachian Summer began in 1984 as a chamber music series and retains strong roots in classical music, combined with a variety of other programming geared to varied artistic tastes, preferences, and price points. The series has become one of the region’s leading arts events, attracting more than 27,000 visitors to the High Country each summer. App Summer has been named one of the “Top Twenty Events in the Southeast” by the Southeast Tourism Society.
