Escaped inmate from Wilkes DOC apprehended in Ashe

 

Sheriff B. Phil Howell announces the apprehension of Roger Hawkins and arrest of Jessica Blackburn after Hawkins escape on December 27th from Wilkes County.

 

On Friday, December 27th, 2019 the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an escaped inmate from Wilkes County Department of Corrections. The inmate did have ties to Ashe County, alerting our local agencies to the possibility of Mr. Hawkins presence.

 

In a team effort, West Jefferson Police Department, Jefferson Police Department and the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office were able to spot the vehicle during the early hours of Saturday, December 28th.

 

At approximately 2:30 AM on December 28th, agencies conducted a Felony Traffic stop in Jefferson resulting in no injuries by any party. Ashe County Sheriff’s Office deputies transported the two individuals to the Ashe County Detention Center.

 

The driver and owner of the vehicle, Jessica Blackburn was arrested and charged with Felony Harboring Escapee. She is currently housed in the Ashe County Detention Center under a $15,000 bond.

 

Roger Hawkins was held at the Ashe County Detention Center and later placed back into custody of the NC Department of Corrections.
