Cross Garners Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week Honors

BOONE, N.C. – App State redshirt senior Caleb Cross has been named the Sun Belt Baseball Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.

Cross is the third Mountaineer to earn a weekly honor this season, joining Caleb Marks (March 11) and Tyler Figueroa (April 8).

The right-hander threw a complete-game shutout in App State’s 6-0 victory over Marshall on Friday. Cross scattered seven hits and one walk across a career-high nine innings. He struck out four batters and only allowed a runner to advance past first base two times.

Cross has been dominant across his last three outings. The complete-game shutout against The Herd followed an eight-inning, complete-game victory over ULM on April 4, and that was preceded by seven scoreless and hitless innings in a win against Old Dominion on March 28.

Across that three-start stretch, the Sanford, N.C., native has combined to go 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 24 innings of work. He has struck out 14 batters while allowing just 20 combined walks and hits over that span. Cross has lowered his season ERA to 2.92, which ranks seventh in the Sun Belt, while his five victories this season are tied for fourth-most in the league.

In Sun Belt play, Cross is 4-1 with a 2.31 ERA, while opponents have hit just .185 against him.

Cross joins Marks (March 8 vs. College of Charleston) as Mountaineer pitchers who have thrown a nine-inning, complete-game shutout this season. It marks the first time since Sam Agnew-Wieland threw two complete-game shutouts for App State in 2013 that the Mountaineers have achieved the feat twice in the same year.

The duo joins Northwestern State’s Trent Hillen and Dylan Marionneaux as the only pair of teammates in college baseball this season to have thrown nine-inning, complete-game shutouts.

App State Baseball returns to action Tuesday at 6 p.m., when the Mountaineers take on Duke in Durham. The team will then return to Boone to host James Madison from Thursday through Saturday at Smith Stadium. Single-game tickets can be purchased here.

The 2025 App State baseball season is presented by Chick-fil-A.
