BOONE, N.C. – D1Baseball recognized three App State student-athletes in its 2020 Sun Belt Conference Preview.
The publication ranks junior outfielder Kendall McGowan as the Sun Belt’s No. 19 prospect for the 2020 draft. D1Baseball also lists sophomore starting pitcher Tyler Tuthill as the No. 10 prospect in the 2021 draft.
McGowan led the team with 98 total bases and tied for first in triples (four) and stolen bases (11) in 2019. The Forest City, North Carolina native also ranked second on the team with 31 runs scored, eight home runs and 35 RBIs a season ago. He batted .323 with six home runs and 21 RBIs against Sun Belt opponents.
Tuthill, who led the Mountaineers in innings pitched in 2019, registered 60 strikeouts and finished with a 4.36 ERA as a freshman. Tuthill earned his first Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week award in April after a complete-game shutout of first-place UTA. The left-hander allowed four hits and struck out eight batters on just 94 pitches.
D1Baseball tabs Noah Hall as the conference’s No. 4 impact freshman. Hall, a right-handed pitcher from Charlotte, North Carolina, finished his senior campaign at Providence High School with a 9-1 record, 103 strikeouts and a 1.66 ERA.
The Mountaineers open the season at Gardner-Webb on Feb. 14. First pitch for App State’s first game of 2020 is set for 4 p.m.
