BOONE, N.C. — The preseason watch list for the 2018 Maxwell Award, which is given to the player of the year in college football, includes Appalachian State running back Jalin Moore.
Moore ranks second among active FBS players with 3,170 career rushing yards, but he’s the only active back with at least 235 rushing yards in four career games. He’s ranked No. 9 overall and No. 1 among running backs on NFL.com’s 18-player list of “college football’s most freakish athletes.”
Street and Smith labeled Moore as the Sun Belt Conference’s “Top NFL Prospect.” He is one of three Sun Belt players on the preseason watch list, as he’s joined by Arkansas State quarterback Justice Hansen and ULM quarterback Caleb Evans.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. Semifinalists will be announced Oct. 29, and three finalists will be unveiled Nov. 19.
