BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State’s Randall Diabe has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Month for February,
Diabe, a junior from Greensboro, had a 3-0 dual meet record at 197 pounds last month with victories against Duke and two NCAA qualifiers from the Southern Conference.
Diabe capped a 7-0 run through the league with 3-2 decisions against 10th-ranked Scottie Boykin of Chattanooga and The Citadel’s Sawyer Root, with the upset win in Chattanooga helping App State erase a 16-12 deficit in an 18-16 victory that gave the Mountaineers a third straight SoCon title. Diabe also earned a win by an 8-3 decision against Duke’s Alec Schenk in February.
Diabe (19-7) has received an at-large berth for next week’s NCAA Championships in Cleveland, where he will face Kent State’s Kyle Conel (24-10) to open competition in their 33-man bracket. Diabe is 31st nationally in his weight class by the Division I Wrestling Coaches’ Panel and 28th in the RPI.
Updated forms of those two rankings lists were released Thursday, and five Mountaineers were included.

Gavin Londoff, the first alternate for the NCAA Championships at 149 pounds, is No. 32 in the RPI. Cary Miller is No. 32 in the coaches’ rankings at the heavyweight spot.
