AKRON, Ohio — Cary Miller won five matches, Laken Cook posted four victories and Matt Zovistoski matched Cook by winning his first three matches as 15 wrestlers representing the App State Regional Training Center (RTC) competed at the U23 World Team Trials over the weekend.

The top finishers in Akron advanced to the U23 World Championships that will take place in Romania in November. The 3-0 starts in the 70 kg class put both Cook and Zovistoski in the round of 16.

Miller (125 kg), Cook, Zovistoski, Irvin Enriquez (65 kg), Thomas Flitz (79 kg), Randall Diabe (92 kg), Alan Clothier (86 kg), De’Andre Swinson-Barr (57 kg), Michael Elliott (74 kg), Jonathan Millner (70 kg), Anthony Brito (65 kg), Joe Accousti (79 kg) and Codi Russell (61 kg) all recorded at least one win.

Miller’s 5-2 record included a 10-0 win in his first match and three straight victories following his first loss. Cook, who went 4-2, won his first three matches before suffering his first loss to eventual champion Tyler Berger of Nebraska. Zovistoski started 3-0 before suffering an 8-5 loss to Josh Reyes.

Enriquez, Zovistoski and Flitz both went 3-2 in their respective weight classes.
