BOONE, N.C. — Appalachian State Athletics’ second annual Legends Gala at Camp Yonahnoka is officially sold out.
Hall of Fame football coach and title-winning NASCAR team owner Joe Gibbs will serve as the keynote speaker for the event at the The Eseeola Lodge at Linville Golf Club in Linville, N.C., on Friday, June 29.
A native of Mocksville, Gibbs won three Super Bowl titles as head coach of the Washington Redskins. He started Joe Gibbs Racing in 1992 and has won four Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championships as a team owner. Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez and Erik Jones are currently driving in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series for Joe Gibbs Racing.
The event at Camp Yonahnoka will feature many legends with connections to Appalachian and the High Country. Last year’s inaugural Legends Gala was a rousing success, with 1983 Appalachian State football coach and 2005 national champion Mack Brown serving as the keynote speaker and Don Munson (App alum, Clemson’s play-by-play voice) emceeing the event.
A crowd of 200 gathered in a picturesque setting with Grandfather Mountain and Linville Golf Club in the backdrop.
The 2017 event attracted many other high-profile guests, including Bob Griese (NFL Hall of Famer), Ben Sutton (ISP/IMG), Jerry Moore (App State football coach from 1989-2012), Scott Satterfield (App State’s football coach since 2013), Bobby Cremins (App State basketball coach from 1975-81) and Melissa Morrison-Howard (two-time Olympic medalist in track and field) as well as former and current NFL players such as Dino Hackett, Larry Hand, Kendall Lamm and Doug Middleton.
