Ashe Residents Call upon Local NC Government to Stand in Solidarity with Working People
Rural, working people across North Carolina to call on their local government to defend them from the federal government’s cutbacks in funding and shuttering of vital agencies.
Jefferson, NC—On Monday, November 3, rural working people from Ashe County in the mountains to down east will hold local press conferences across the state to ask their local elected officials stand in solidarity with working people in every corner of North Carolina against the school, healthcare, and disaster recovery cuts that threaten our communities. The Ashe County meeting will be held outside of the Ashe County Courthouse.
We believe that local government should be our first and most important line of defense. We need our county commissioners, city councilors, and local representatives to be champions for our communities.

Down Home North Carolina builds multiracial power with working people in small towns and rural places in our state. Down Home members organize around the issues that they identify as most pressing in their communities. By organizing together, we can shape a democracy that serves working and poor people, where our labor and families are valued, and where our food, water, land, and communities are healthy.
