Ashe Memorial Hospital Hurricane Florence Relief Effort

September 18, 2018

Dear Ashe County Residents:

I have been in communication with the New Hanover Regional Medical Center to discuss the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.   My heart is filled emotion as I have heard stories of tragic loss as a result of the devastation caused by Hurricane Florence.

Not only are the hospital patients in need of continued care but those who have dedicated their lives to provide care to the sick and afflicted have also been affected as well.  Pender Memorial Hospital is an 86 bed, not-for-profit critical access community hospital, owned by Pender County and managed by New Hanover Regional Medical Center are now faced with their own sense of urgency to receive basic necessities.

Humbled by the Ashe County community for their heartfelt generosity, they have shared that healthcare workers have lost and had great damage to their homes as well.

Pender Memorial Hospital has expressed items needed to include:

  • New bedding
  • New towels
  • Cleaning products (dish soap, brooms, dish towels, bleach, buckets, rubber gloves, trash bags, toiletries, masks, toilet paper, paper towels, etc.)
  • Diapers/ wipes (all sizes)
  • Non-perishable food
  • Water
  • Pet food (dog/cat)
  • Monetary donations – made out to Ashe Memorial Hospital sent to 200 Hospital Avenue.

(one check will be sent to Pender Memorial Hospital)

Please drop off donated items to the State Employees Credit Union Parking lot in West Jefferson to begin Friday, September 21, 2018 from 8:00am – 5:00pm to depart Monday, October 1, 2018.  In collaboration, the truck, owned by Mack & Carla Ham, MC Towing, will be collecting/loading the donated items.
