Ashe County HS Athletics – COVID-19 Update

As I’m sure you all are aware of by now, Governor Roy Cooper announced that all public schools in North Carolina would remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the school year.  Shortly after this announcement was made, the NCHSAA issued a statement officially canceling the remainder of the Spring sport season.  While we were deeply saddened by the news, we understand that ultimately the safety and health of our student athletes, coaches, school personnel, and fans always come first.

In the coming weeks, you will receive guidance and updates regarding Summer activities which include our camps, workouts, and all other activities as we receive further guidance from the state officials, NCHSAA officials, and local school officials.  I also plan to update you on important items such as student athlete academic eligibility in light of the changes made to student grading as well as requirements on student athletic physicals for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

In the meantime, student athletes continue to complete your online coursework, stay in touch with your teachers as well as your coaches, and continue to practice the guidelines recommended by our health officials.  If you need anything please let us know.

Hang in there and be safe during these unprecedented times.
