BOONE, N.C. — Following a 3-0 weekend that included a win against an opponent who was ranked No. 7 in the country, Appalachian State’s Angel Najar has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week.
Najar had an unbeaten record at 157 pounds as App State faced Sacred Heart, No. 15 Rutgers and Ithaca College on Saturday at the Journeyman MyHouse Northeast Duals in Troy, N.Y. He had a second-period pin against Sacred Heart, won by a 5-1 decision against the highly ranked John Van Brill of Rutgers and won by technical fall against Ithaca.
A senior from Bethel, N.C., Najar improved to 8-1 on the season and 26-7 in the last two seasons, including a 5-0 mark in SoCon duals.
The Mountaineers return to action Sunday with the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia, and their next dual match is Nov. 25 against visiting North Carolina in Varsity Gym.

Single-match tickets are $7 (adult) and $3 (youth), with the visits from UNC, Oklahoma and Chattanooga set as premium matches with a price of $10 for adults and $5 for youth.
