NFC West showdown
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The top two teams in the NFC West meet in primetime tonight.
At 8-0, San Francisco is off to its best start since winning its first 10 games in 1990. But, the undefeated 49ers haven’t fared well against the Seahawks in recent years, losing 10 in a row against Seattle until pulling out a win in their second meeting last season.
The 7-2 Seahawks are looking for their fifth road win of the season.
Both teams have added star receivers to their rosters in recent weeks. Emmanuel Sanders got acclimated in the San Francisco 49ers offense almost immediately with touchdown catches in his first two games with the team. The Seattle Seahawks are hoping for a similar impact from their midseason acquisition, Josh Gordon, who could make his Seattle debut tonight.
High-scoring teams highlight 6-game slate
UNDATED (AP) – Two of the NBA’s highest scoring teams meet in New Orleans tonight.
The Pelicans have averaged more than 117 points per game so far this season, while the Houston Rockets lead the league at just over 120 points per game. Houston’s James Harden is averaging more than 37 points per game, which also leads the league. Houston is coming off a 117-94 win over Chicago Saturday, while New Orleans topped Charlotte 115-110 the same night.
Meanwhile, the Atlantic-Division leading Boston Celtics look to extend their 7-game winning streak when they host the Dallas Mavericks.
In other action, Minnesota visits Detroit and the Memphis Grizzlies are in San Antonio to play the Spurs.
Out West, a depleted Golden State Warriors squad will be looking for just its third win of the season with the Utah Jazz coming to town. And Kawhi (kuh-WY’) Leonard gets to show his old teammates around his new home court, when the Toronto Raptors visit the Clippers in L.A.

UNDATED (AP) – The Washington Capitals are off to a strong start, having lost just two games in regulation as they approach the quarter-mark of their season. They’ll try to extend a winning streak that’s now at six games when they host the Coyotes tonight. Arizona is coming off a 4-3 loss to Minnesota Saturday, in which they coughed up a two-goal lead.
The night’s other game is in Raleigh, N.C., where the Hurricanes and Senators meet in the second of back-to-back games. Ottawa won the first 4-1 on Saturday night.
TOP-25 COLLEGE BASKETBALL
No. 20 Saint Mary’s hosts Winthrop
UNDATED (AP) – The only team ranked in the AP’s Top 25 college basketball poll that’s in action this evening is No. 20 Saint Mary’s.
The Gaels are coming off a strong, early test against a Big Ten opponent in their season opener last week. Wisconsin never let them build a big lead and forced them to overtime, but Saint Mary’s pulled out a 65-63 win. They’ll host Winthrop tonight.
Saint Mary’s was the second-ranked team in the West Coast Conference in the preseason, behind No. 8 Gonzaga.
