Trail Blazers visit Jazz
UNDATED (AP) – After having a four-game winning streak snapped Monday by the New Orleans Pelicans, the Portland Trail Blazers are hoping to get back in the win column as they visit the Utah Jazz. Utah’s second unit is expected to get a boost from newly-acquired Jordan Clarkson. The veteran backup guard came over from Cleveland in a trade.
Also on the NBA schedule:
– The San Antonio Spurs, coming off of a 145-115 rout of Memphis on Monday, travel to Dallas to play the Mavericks. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, hope to rebound from that 30-point loss; they play tonight in Oklahoma City.
– Tonight’s other NBA action finds Washington closing out a four-game road trip at Detroit. Minnesota is at Sacramento. And the Knicks meet the Nets in Brooklyn. The Nets are coming off of their biggest comeback win of the season, rallying from 18 points behind in the third quarter to beat the Atlanta Hawks over the weekend.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-BOWL GAMES
Two bowl games on tap
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) – Miami, at 6-and-6, is hoping to finish the season with a winning record by taking today’s Independence Bowl in Shreveport, Louisiana. Miami quarterback Shaquille Quarterman will be playing in the 52nd game of his college career. He started them all, never missing a game in his four seasons.
Louisiana Tech is 9-and-3, looking for a ten-win season for the first time at the FBS level. The school’s best defensive player, cornerback Amik Robertson, won’t play in the bowl game as he preps for the NFL draft.
– In today’s other bowl game, Pittsburgh and Eastern Michigan will meet in the Quick Lane Bowl in Detroit, hoping to end postseason droughts. The Panthers are 0-4 in bowls under coach Pat Narduzzi. The Eagles have lost all three of their bowls as a Division I football program.
