Update on the latest in sports:
Michigan State, Kansas see action in Hawaii
LAHAINA, Hawaii (AP) – Third-ranked Michigan State and number-four Kansas are both in action at the Maui Invitational in Hawaii, but they aren’t headed for a matchup. Michigan State’s loss Monday night to Virginia Tech puts the Spartans on the loser side of the bracket.
For the Jayhawks, meanwhile, there’s no easy path to the tournament title in a field that includes Georgia, Dayton, BYU and UCLA. Michigan State plays Georgia later today, and it’s Kansas against BYU.
Elsewhere, top-ranked Duke plays Stephen F. Austin tonight at the start of what could be an easy week for the Blue Devils.
In other action involving Top 25 teams, number-18 Auburn plays Richmond, and Colorado — ranked 21 — takes on Clemson in Las Vegas.
Mavericks face test against Clippers
DALLAS (AP) – With MVP candidate Luka Doncic leading the way, the Dallas Mavericks have scored 137 points or more in each of their last three games. The Mavericks face a big test tonight when they host the 12-and-5 Los Angeles Clippers.
In other NBA action, the Denver Nuggets have won nine of their last ten, heading into tonight’s matchup at home against the Washington Wizards. Although the Wizards are just 5-and-9, their offense has been one of the league’s best, averaging a fraction above 119 points.
Canadiens host Bruins
MONTREAL (AP) – A longtime NHL rivalry resumes tonight in Montreal as the Canadiens host the Boston Bruins.
Also tonight, the New Jersey Devils host the Minnesota Wild.
And in the only other game on the NHL schedule, the Dallas Stars bring a seven-game winning streak to Chicago. Dallas has gone 14-1-and-1 in the last 16 games after a 1-7-and-1 start to the season.
