CONCORD, N.C. (AP) — Police in North Carolina say a man shot by officers during a foot chase at a mall last week has died. Concord Police Chief Gary Gacek announced Tuesday that Dominic Jeter of Charlotte died over the weekend, according to the medical examiner’s office. News outlets reported that officers shot and critically wounded Jeter during a chase in Concord Mills Mall on August 31, after police say he fired at officers. Officers responding to the mall for a report of stolen credit cards and three suspects ran when officers approached. Police say Jeter fired at Officers Jeremy Howarth and Maria Westphal and they returned fire. Jeter was taken to a hospital in critical condition and two other suspects were arrested.

KINGS MOUNTAIN, N.C. (AP) — Another sports-gambling venue has opened in North Carolina. This time it’s at the temporary casino started by the Catawba Nation last year along Interstate 85 near the South Carolina border. The Catawba Two Kings Casino in Kings Mountain opened the sports book on Tuesday. The state’s other two sports books opened last year at casinos operated by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in Cherokee and Murphy. The Catawba Nation is based in Rock Hill, South Carolina. The tribe got the U.S. Interior Department to put into trust acreage in Cleveland County, North Carolina, on which to build the casino.
