UNDATED (AP) – The nation’s largest theater chain says it may not survive the coronavirus pandemic. AMC says even if theaters reopen at the end of the month, it may still have to go out of business. The chain says the problem goes beyond being closed the past three months because of the COVID-19 outbreak. It says the real concern is if moviegoers will return to theaters when restrictions ease – and if there will be top movies to greet them when they do. Hollywood has canceled or delayed its summer hits, which means pickings will be slim once theaters reopen.

NEW YORK (AP) – As demonstrations against police brutality spread nationwide – so have complaints from journalists that they’re being roughed up by police. There have been dozens of incidences in which reporters and their crews have been shot at, manhandled, gassed – or even arrested – while covering protests. There’s already one lawsuit. A freelance journalist has filed a federal suit against Minneapolis. And dozens of news organizations have urged Minnesota law enforcement to leave journalists alone as they try to work.

NEW YORK (AP) – Former “Glee” star Lea Michele is apologizing for her actions on the set of the TV musical – this after a co-star accused her of giving her a rough time. The actress released a statement saying she didn’t remember any specific incident – but was sorry she acted out because of what she calls her privilege and immaturity. Michele’s apology came after co-star Samantha Marie Ware accused her of “traumatic microaggressions” – and suggested they were racially motivated. Ware is black and Michele is white. The complaint led the meal kit company HelloFresh to cut ties with Michelle.

NEW YORK (AP) – Bruce Jay Friedman has died. He was an Oscar-nominated screenplay writer and a popular playwright and author. Among the movies he wrote scripts for were “Splash” and “Stir Crazy.” Friedman was 90 years old.
