Three weeks ago, the CNN anchor announced he had the virus and last week, his wife Cristina got it. Now, their teenage son Mario is ill. Cristina Cuomo announced the news on Instagram; her husband spoke about it on the air. Both mom and dad say the son has relatively mild symptoms and they expect him to be OK. Most who get the coronavirus have relatively mild symptoms. But COVID-19 has also caused serious breathing problems – and has killed.
CHARLIZE THERON DONATES $1 MILLION TO FIGHT COVID-19
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Charlize Theron is pitching in to help fight the new coronavirus – and combat one of the more sobering side-effects of the stay-at-home orders most of us are under. Theron and her foundation are putting up $1 million to virus-relief efforts. Half the money is aimed at fighting domestic violence resulting from the outbreak. Public health experts say during quarantine, many at-risk women are stuck at home with their abusers, with little means of escape.

Among the items being auctioned are a dress Florence Pugh wore in “Midsommar” and Kevin Garnett’s Boston Celtics jersey from “Uncut Gems.”
JUSSIE SMOLLETT LAWSUIT KICKED OUT
CHICAGO (AP) – A federal judge has beaten down Jussie Smollett in a legal case, rejecting a lawsuit by the former “Empire” actor against Chicago and some of its police officers. Smollett said he was the victim of malicious prosecution when police charged him with staging his own hate crime last January. Smollett claimed his assailants used racist and anti-gay language during the beating. But police concluded he faked the whole thing and filed charges. The charges were dropped at one point – but have since been reinstated.
LOUIS C.K. DONATION TO JOE BIDEN RETURNED
WASHINGTON (AP) – It was a donation that looked good in the bank account of Joe Biden’s presidential campaign. But it didn’t look good in the optics department. Biden’s campaign says it has refunded a $2,800 donation from Louis C.K. The comedian and writer saw his career collapse after five women accused him of sexual misconduct. Election records say the donation was made last month – and Biden’s campaign says the refund will be reflected in the next report.
VETERAN ACTRESS SHIRLEY KNIGHT DIES
LOS ANGELES (AP) – An Oscar-nominated actress who played a wide range of characters during a long career has died. Shirley Knight was 83 – and she died yesterday at her daughter’s home in Texas. Knight got her first Oscar nod in just her second movie in 1960’s “The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.” Her second came two years later for her work opposite Paul Newman in the 1962 film, “Sweet Bird of Youth.” More recently, she was co-starred in the ABC TV show “Desperate Housewives,” which earned her one of her many Emmy nominations.
AXIOS ACCEPTS GOVERNMENT FUNDING TO STAY AFLOAT
NEW YORK (AP) – Some news agencies find it troubling to accept money from the government – so they can keep a measure of independence over those they cover. But Axios says it was a no-brainer for it to accept a small business loan as part of the federal coronavirus stimulus package. Two other news companies, The Tampa Bay Times and the Seattle Times, also took some of the government aid. Axios says the $5 million loan keeps it from having to lay-off or cut pay for its 200-person staff for the rest of the year.
