BOX OFFICE: “HARRY POTTER” SPINOFF OPENS WEAKLY
UNDATED (AP) – The magic seems to be fading for the “Harry Potter” franchise – at least as far as its sequels go. Behold: the box office numbers for “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.” The third in the Potter spinoff series opened to just $43 million in North America. It’s a far cry from the first film, which had a $74.4 million debut in 2016 and the second spinoff, “The Crimes of Grindelwald” – which opened to $62.2 million in 2018. Despite it all, “The Secrets of Dumbledore” grossed enough to capture the top spot on the box office list this past weekend.

“THE BATMAN” HITS HBO MAX TODAY
UNDATED (AP) – The biggest box office hit of the year so far will land on home theaters. “The Batman” will being streaming on HBO Max starting today – immediately after ending its 45-day run in theaters. It’s part of a deal Warner Bros. struck last year to combat the effects of the pandemic. The release schedule deal sees the studio’s new movies put into the stream after running 45 days in theaters. That is about half what the traditional theatrical release schedule called for. After its debut on streaming, “The Batman” moves to HBO on Saturday.

Aside from “Seinfeld,” Sheridan had roles in TV shows including “Kojak,” “Cagney & Lacey,” “Family Ties” and “ALF.”

UNDATED (AP) – He just won an Oscar as a musician. Now Jon Batiste has a shot at winning one for his acting, too. He will make his feature acting debut in “The Color Purple.” The Hollywood Reporter says he will be in the new film adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Alice Walker book, which has already been made into an Oscar-nominated movie by Steven Spielberg and a Tony-winning Broadway musical. Batiste will play Grady, the sweet-talking, piano-playing husband of Shug Avery – who will be portrayed by Taraji P. Henson.

KITCHEN SET UP BY JOSE ANDRES DESTROYED BY RUSSIAN BLAST
KHARKIV, Ukraine — Celebrity chef Jose Andres says those working for his World Central Kitchen will continue cooking for people in Ukraine – despite a missile attack over the weekend in the city of Kharkiv that destroyed a community kitchen. Andres says staffers of the non-governmental organization were shaken, but safe after the blast. Andres says the attack shows that preparing and serving food in the midst of the war “is an act of courage, resilience and resistance.” Andres says his organization has now reached 30 cities across the Ukraine and its chefs will keep cooking, despite the danger.
