HOUNDMOUTH MAKE A “VIBE” VIDEO
NEW ALBANY, Ind. (AP) – Houndmouth had a vintage Porsche, a racing outfit and a helmet, and that’s pretty much how they came up with their new video, “Las Vegas.” Singer Matt Myers calls it more of a vibe than a concept. He says he put on the racing outfit and the helmet while drummer Shane Cody drove the Porsche in their hometown of New Albany, Indiana. They ended up at the Sportsdrome Speedway in Clarksville. Myers says all their friends know of the Sportsdrome but none of them had been there, so they went ahead and shot a video there. “Las Vegas” will appear on Houndmouth’s upcoming album, “Good For You,” out Nov. 5.

DIRE STRAITS’ JOHN ILLSLEY EXPLAINS ROCK HALL FIASCO
CLEVELAND (AP) – Dire Straits bassist John Illsley reveals there was a good reason why he both inducted and accepted the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018: nobody else would do it. Illsley tells Cleveland.com “They couldn’t find anyone to induct us.” It was already odd because singer Mark Knopfler and guitarist Dave Knopfler refused to attend. Illsley describes the whole experience as “joyous and sort of weird.” Illsley has just published a memoir called “My Life In Dire Straits.” The Rock Hall inductions will be this weekend in Cleveland.

CMAS ADD ALDEAN AND UNDERWOOD AS PERFORMERS
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Jason Aldean and Carrie Underwood will perform their duet “If I Didn’t Love You” at the Country Music Association Awards. Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Old Dominion, Chris Stapleton, Chris Young and Kane Brown also have been added to the performance lineup. Other performers previously announced include Eric Church, Mickey Guyton, Blake Shelton, Jimmy Allen, Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde. The CMAs are Nov. 10 in Nashville and will air live on ABC.

NEW SET OF RAY CHARLES MUSIC HITS STORES
PLACENTIA, Calif. (AP) – The president of the Ray Charles Foundation says she wanted to do something special to mark what would have been the late singer’s 90th birthday. Those plans went awry because of the pandemic. But Valerie Ervin says now’s the right time to release “Ray Charles-True Genius.” The project contains music from every album Charles released after 1960, along with many singles not available before. The 6-disc package includes a live performance in Stockholm from 1972 that has never been released. Ervin calls that performance “stunning.” The set includes a coffee table style book that contains rare photos and other memorabilia. “True Genius” is out now.

INVESTIGATORS DECLARE “COMPLACENCY” ON “RUST” SET
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – Investigators in New Mexico say it’s too soon to say if criminal charges will be filed against anyone in the shooting death on the set of the movie “Rust.” But they say it isn’t too soon to say there was something odd about the way firearms on the set were handled. Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza says there was what he calls “some complacency” before the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounding of director Joel Souza a week ago. He noted there were 500 rounds of ammunition recovered from the set – a mix of blanks, dummy rounds and what are believed to be live rounds. Investigators say a prop gun given to Alec Baldwin after being declared safe fired a live round that killed Hutchins and wounded Souza.

D.A.: MORE RESEARCH NEEDED BEFORE DECISION ON CHARGES CAN BE MADE
SANTA FE, New Mexico (AP) – The district attorney in Santa Fe, New Mexico says no decision has been made on whether to press charges in the shooting death of the cinematographer on the movie “Rust.” Mary Carmack-Altwies says the reason there’s no decision yet – is that it’s a complex case that requires more research and analysis. One issue to be decided is whether anyone can be charged with criminal negligence. Investigators have found that the movie’s armorer set three guns on a cart outside the set and an assistant director handed one of the weapons to Baldwin, declaring it “cold” – or safe to use. But that gun actually had a live round in it.

BRAD PITT LOSES APPEAL ON CUSTODY ISSUE IN CALIF. SUPREME COURT
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) – The California Supreme Court has dealt a defeat to Brad Pitt. The actor asked the judges to reconsider the dismissal of a judge in the custody battle he’s in with his ex-wife Angelina Jolie. She successfully moved to have the custody judge removed – because he didn’t fully disclose his ties to Pitt’s legal team. The upshot of the ruling is that there is now likely to be a pitched battle between the two over custody of their five minor children.

WORLD SERIES TV RATINGS UP
HOUSTON (AP) – So far, so good for this year’s World Series, and not just for fans of the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros – who have seen their teams split the first two games of the best-of-seven clash. The TV ratings are up, too. Game One posted a 17.5% increase over last year’s opener. However, the overall trend for baseball watching continues downward. Tuesday’s game was the second-lowest total to start a World Series, with last year’s Game One marking the nadir.
