TOM DELONGE: NO BLINK-182 REUNION JUST YET
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) – Tom DeLonge (deh-LONG’) wants fans to not get their hopes up, just because he’s now on friendlier terms with his former Blink-182 bandmate, Mark Hoppus. DeLonge says that does not mean he’s rejoining the band, although he acknowledges they sometimes talk about it. DeLonge says while fans might think being in Blink-182 is the best and coolest thing he could do, in reality it’s a “complex mathematical issue.” He says he’s working on about ten movies and a bunch of books, and he can’t just drop that. DeLonge’s band, Angels and Airwaves, has a new album out called “Lifeforms.”
TRISHA YEARWOOD RELEASES A NEW COOKBOOK
NEW YORK (AP) – Even Garth Brooks needs to be fooled into eating his vegetables sometimes, according to his wife, Trisha Yearwood. She loves collard greens, but he does not. Yearwood and her sister concocted a recipe for wontons stuffed with collards. Brooks and his buddy came in from working on the farm and ate them up. Yearwood says that’s when she told him he ate his collard greens for the day. The recipe is in Yearwood’s fourth cookbook, “Trisha’s Kitchen: Easy Comfort Foods for Friends and Family,” which is out now.
WILLIAM SHATNER GOES INTO SPACE
VAN HORN, Texas (AP) – William Shatner says he hopes he never recovers from the feeling he had going into space yesterday. Shatner was one of four passengers on a Blue Origin space flight that went to an altitude of 66.5 miles above the West Texas desert. The trip lasted about ten minutes. Shatner says the feeling of going instantly from blue sky into blackness was like realizing what death is. At the age of 90, Shatner now is the oldest person who has been into space. Although Shatner had to pass physical requirements, he joked that one of the worst parts of the flight was having to go up all the steps to get into the capsule.
WILLIAM SHATNER TAKES JEFF BEZOS’ “STAR TREK” TOYS TO SPACE
VAN HORN, Texas (AP) – William Shatner did have some “Star Trek” stuff with him when he went into space yesterday. They were homemade tricorders and communicators that Amazon and Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos (BAY’-zohs) made when he was nine. Bezos is a huge “Star Trek” fan and invited Shatner to yesterday’s Blue Origin space flight as his guest. Shatner repaid the favor by taking Bezos’ “Star Trek” gizmos into space. Bezos says his mother had saved them for 48 years.
‘DOPESICK,’ AN OPIOID CRISIS STORY THAT NEEDED ‘TO BE TOLD’
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Actor Danny Strong pops up in an eclectic batch of series, from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” to “Gilmore Girls” to “Billions.” But when it comes to investing his time as a creator, there’s consistency in the projects he tackles. Among them: the TV movies “Recount” and “Game Change” and the theatrical release “Lee Daniels’ The Butler.” Strong’s latest project, titled “Dopesick,” fits the pattern of topical issues. Hulu’s eight-part miniseries about America’s opioid crisis weaves together the painkiller’s devastating toll and the actions of those who aided or failed to prevent it. Three episodes debut Wednesday on the streaming service, with the rest out weekly.
