ROLLING STONES PAY TRIBUTE TO CHARLIE WATTS
LONDON (AP) – Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards’ online tribute to drummer Charlie Watts is an empty drum kit with a sign that says “closed.” Singer Mick Jagger posted a photo of Watts behind the drums. Guitarist Ronnie Woods posted a photo of himself with Watts with the caption, “I love you my fellow Gemini – I will dearly miss you – you are the best.” Former bassist Bill Wyman posted Watts’ photo with the caption, “Charlie, you were like a brother to me. In the band and in life.” Watts died Tuesday at the age of 80.
LAWSUIT FILED OVER 1991 NIRVANA ALBUM
LOS ANGELES (AP) – A 30-year-old man who appeared nude at 4 months old in 1991 on the cover of Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album is suing the band and others. The lawsuit was filed by Spencer Elden in California. And it alleges that Nirvana and the record labels who put out the album marketed child porn. The lawsuit is filed by Spencer Elden in California, alleging that Nirvana and the record labels behind “Nevermind” “intentionally commercially marketed Spencer’s child pornography.” The suit claims Elden suffered “lifelong damages” from the image of him naked underwater appearing to swim after a dollar bill on a fish hook.
WITNESS SAYS R. KELLY FORCED HER TO WRITE BLACKMAIL LETTER
NEW YORK (AP) – A former girlfriend of R. Kelly has testified at his sex trafficking trial in New York that she wrote a letter threatening to blackmail Kelly if they broke up – and that Kelly forced her to write it. In court yesterday, the woman, identified as “Jane Doe,” read parts of the letter, in which she wrote she’d tell everyone Kelly raped her and she would hit herself hard enough to leave bruises. When Kelly’s attorneys confronted her, she said the abuse was real and that Kelly forced her to write the fake blackmail letter “to protect him in a trial like this from very serious charges.” Kelly has denied doing anything wrong.
SHINEDOWN WILL RELEASE “ATTENTION ATTENTION” FILM
NEW YORK (AP) – Shinedown singer Brent Smith describes their new film as “a mind-bending free fall into the human psyche.” The movie “Attention Attention” uses the music from the 2018 Shinedown album of the same name. Director Bill Yukich says what starts as many stories in the film becomes one story. “Attention Attention” will be released to video on demand on Sept. 3.
MTV VMAS NAME DOJA CAT AS HOST
NEW YORK (AP) – Doja Cat will host the MTV Video Music Awards on Sept. 12. She also will perform. Doja Cat is up for five awards and was named the VMA’s best new artist last year.
JONI MITCHELL NAMED MUSICARES PERSON OF THE YEAR
SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) – The Recording Academy has chosen Joni Mitchell as its MusiCares Person of the Year. Other musicians will perform in her honor at an event in Los Angeles on Jan. 29, two days before the Grammy Awards. The event is a fundraiser for MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s charity that helps musicians in need.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Dan + Shay, Luke Combs, Rascal Flatts and more country artists were celebrated alongside prominent songwriters, producers and industry leaders at the Academy of Country Music Honors awards show. In front of a limited crowd at the Ryman Auditorium last night, artists paid tribute to other writers, bands and even a documentarian for their work in the genre of country music. Carly Pearce, Alan Jackson and Lee Ann Womack sang tributes to country icon Loretta Lynn, who got the Poets Award. Lynn, who spoke in an audio message but did not appear, called it greatest award she could get.
“BLACK PANTHER” STAR INJURED ON SET
UNDATED (AP) – “Black Panther” star Letitia Wright is being treated in a hospital after sustaining minor injuries on the set of “Wakanda Forever.” A rep for Marvel says the injury happened while filming a stunt for the sequel in Boston. The Marvel representative says Wright is expected to be released from the hospital soon. Wright is reviving her role as Shuri in “Wakanda Forever,” which is being directed by Ryan Coogler.
R. KELLY TESTIMONY POINTS TO FORCED BLACKMAIL LETTERS
NEW YORK (AP) – One of R. Kelly’s accusers says the musician forced his girlfriends to write fake blackmail letters. The accusation comes as part of the testimony yesterday at Kelly’s sex-trafficking trial in Brooklyn, New York. The witness says Kelly planned to use the bogus blackmail letters to defend himself if he were charged with sexually abusing young women or teens. The witness, like others so far in the case, have been identified in court only as “Jane Doe.”
PORN STAR RON JEREMY INDICTED ON SEX ASSAULT CHARGES
LOS ANGELES (AP) – A grand jury has indicted adult film actor Ron Jeremy on more than 30 counts of sexual assault. Authorities in Los Angeles say the charges involve 21 women and girls and span more than two decades. Jeremy is 68. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the allegations.
HARRY POTTER-LINKED CAFE BURNS IN FIRE
LONDON (AP) – A cafe in Scotland’s capital where author J.K. Rowling wrote some of the Harry Potter books has been damaged in a fire. Authorities say The Elephant House in Edinburgh sustained smoke and water damage in Tuesday’s blaze. The Elephant House is a regular stop for Harry Potter fans. For a long time, it bore a sign calling itself the “birthplace” of the fictional young wizard.
