KANYE WEST LIVES IN AN ATLANTA STADIUM
UNDATED (AP) – Kanye West needs a LOT of creative space. He’s living inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta while he finishes his “Donda” album. That’s according to a West representative who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about it. West held a sold-out “Donda” listening party at the stadium Thursday. He also attended a soccer match over the weekend. The release of “Donda” has been delayed several times. It’s now set to come out Aug. 6.

 

BRITNEY SPEARS’ NEW LAWYER SEEKS OUSTER OF SINGER’S DAD
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Britney Spears’ new lawyer has petitioned to remove her father from the conservatorship that has controlled her life and money for 13 years – and replace him with a professional accountant. Attorney Matthew Rosengart says in documents filed yesterday in Los Angeles that the current arrangement “has grown increasingly toxic and is simply no longer tenable.” Rosengart has proposed that James Spears be replaced with CPA Jason Rubin as conservator of the pop star’s estate. James Spears has declined previous calls to step down from Rosengart and others. He says his only motivation is his daughter’s best interest.

 

GARY ROSSINGTON OF LYNYRD SKYNYRD HAS HEART SURGERY
UNDATED (AP) – Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington is recovering at home after emergency heart surgery. The band says on Facebook that Rossington, who is 69, is expected to make a full recovery. Lynyrd Skynyrd says the Rossington family encouraged them to continue performing, rather than cancel shows. Rossington has dealt with heart problems since 2015.

 

R. KELLY’S TEAM OPPOSES BID TO ADD NEW CLAIMS TO TRIAL
NEW YORK (AP) – R. Kelly’s legal team is promising to fight a plan from prosecutors to tell jurors in Kelly’s sex trafficking trial about other alleged victims, including an underage boy. Kelly lawyer Nicole Blank Becker says prosecutors are trying to shape the public perception of the case, “ignoring that Mr. Kelly is presume innocent until proven otherwise.” Kelly has denied abusing anyone. Prosecutors say Kelly led a criminal enterprise to recruit six women and girls for sex. Jury selections is set to begin Aug. 9 in New York. Kelly also faces sex-related charges in Illinois and Minnesota.

 

PINK SUPPORTS BEACH HANDBALL TEAM IN UNIFORM DISPUTE
HELSINKI (AP) – Pink says she’d be happy to pay the fine on behalf of the Norwegian female beach handball team for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms. It appears that the fine has already been paid and the governing body is changing its stance based on criticism. The Norwegian female beach handball team wore shorts, like the men’s team, at the European Beach Handball Championships in Bulgaria last week. They were fined about $1,770 for violating the uniform rules. The Norwegian Handball Federation paid the fine to the European Handball Federation, which says it now will donate it to a women’s sports foundation. Pink says she’s “very proud” of the team for protesting.

 

WOODY GUTHRIE BOOK IN THE WORKS
NEW YORK (AP) – Woody Guthrie’s daughter, Nora Guthrie, has curated a book about her father that includes his diary entries, doodles, private letters and illustrated pages from his notebooks. “Woody Guthrie: Songs and Art – Words and Wisdom” will be published Nov. 16. Rosanne Cash, Chuck D, Jeff Daniels, Ani (AH’-nee) DiFranco and Arlo Guthrie contributed to the book.

 

RONAN KEATING IS AWARDED DAMAGES IN PHONE HACKING CASE
LONDON (AP) – Former Boyzone singer Ronan Keating has accepted undisclosed but substantial damages from a British tabloid that intercepted his voicemail messages. Lawyers for the News of the World newspaper say the company offers its sincere apologies for the invasion of privacy more than a decade ago. Keating was one of several celebrities who had their phones hacked and personal information published.

 

CHARLIE DANIELS PODCAST DEBUTS NEXT WEEK
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Charlie Daniels’ son has created a podcast dedicated to his father’s life and career. Charlie Daniels Jr. will host “The Charlie Daniels Podcast.” The first biweekly episode premieres Aug. 6, featuring Roger Campbell, who worked as a roadie for the Charlie Daniels Band for 44 years. Upcoming guests will include music producers, artists who were influenced by Charlie Daniels, and even staffers from his office.

 

CHUCK BERRY FEATURED ON “IN THEIR OWN WORDS”
NEW YORK (AP) – The PBS series “In Their Own Words” will focus on Chuck Berry this week. Keith Richards, Robert Cray, Slash and Darius Rucker will give their thoughts on Berry. Berry’s widow, son and grandson also gave interviews. The episode premieres tonight on PBS stations – check local listings.

 

 

“DAYS OF OUR LIVES” GETS STREAMING SPINOFF
NEW YORK (AP) – Viewers of Peacock will be getting some soap in their stream. The NBC soap opera “Days of our Lives” is getting its own spinoff, to run on Peacock. The NBCUniversal streaming service says it has ordered five episodes of the new series, called “Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem.” As the name implies, “Beyond Salem” will feature action away from the fictional town of Salem, Illinois – and follow characters for long weekend escapes to different cities. Among the cities to be explored in the spinoff are Zurich, New Orleans, Phoenix and Miami.

 

R. KELLY TO FIGHT AIRING OF NEW ALLEGATIONS
NEW YORK (AP) – R. Kelly’s lawyers say they will “vigorously oppose” an effort by prosecutors in New York to bolster their claims against the disgraced R&B star. Last week, prosecutors said they wanted to present at trial more incidents to buttress their claim that Kelly ran an enterprise to procure sex partners, including underage girls and at least one underage boy. But Kelly lawyer Nicole Blank says it’s an effort to “pile on” to make the singer look bad before a jury. Jury selection in the federal case is to start Aug. 9.

 

DISNEY TO CONVERT AMUSEMENT PARK RIDE INTO MOVIE
UNDATED (AP) – Amusement park attractions often make for great rides. But not always great movies. But Disney is trying to see if it can make a successful movie based on its “Jungle Cruise” attraction. The movie is to be released this week in theaters and on Disney+. It stars Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt. Disney has had mixed success with turning rides into movies. It had a hit with “Pirates of the Caribbean,” but a major flop with “Tomorrowland.”

 

TUCKER CARLSON VIDEO BECOMES SOCIAL MEDIA HIT
HELENA, Mont. (AP) – Fox News host Tucker Carlson has a lot of opinions. But when a man confronted him recently, it was Carlson who was on the receiving end of the man’s take on him. It’s in a video that has gotten lots of exposure online. The clip shows a Montana man named Dan Bailey speaking with Carlson in a fly fishing shop. The man called him “the worst human being known to mankind.” The Fox host is heard saying in reply, “I appreciate that” and “I’m not going to debate.” Fox News calls the videotaped encounter an ambush that is “inexcusable.”
