LIL BABY DETAINED IN PARIS
PARIS (AP) – Lil Baby’s trip to Paris for Fashion Week has ended with his detainment. The Paris prosecutor’s office says Lil Baby was detained yesterday for allegedly transporting drugs. NBA star James Harden also was stopped but not detained, and a person who was not identified was detained, according to prosecutors.

 

R. KELLY GRANTED SHORT EXTENSION BEFORE NEW YORK TRIAL
NEW YORK (AP) – A judge has granted R. Kelly’s new legal team a little more time to prepare for his sex-trafficking trial in New York, but not much. U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly says jury selection will still start as planned on Aug. 9. However, she will allow opening statements to be delayed until Aug. 18, instead of immediately after the panel is chosen. Kelly switched legal teams less than a month ago. His new lawyers have said they could not meet with him because he’s quarantined for 14 days after being moved from Chicago to New York. He denies abusing anyone. Kelly also has pleaded not guilty to sex-related charges in Illinois and Minnesota.

 

PATTI LABELLE NEEDS PRACTICE IN HIGH HEELS
VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) – Patti LaBelle needs practice to get her feet stage-ready for her return to concerts. LaBelle has not worn high heels at all during the past 15 months. She says she recently wore heels to a party and could not even walk up a hill. She jokes she might come out on stage in heels for two songs, kick them off and start wearing flats or Uggs. LaBelle says she feels like “a pitiful queen” who sat around during the pandemic, and she can’t wait to return to performing. LaBelle’s first scheduled concert in Sept. 17 outside Baltimore.

 

PAUL McCARTNEY SHARES SONGWRITING MEMORIES IN HULU SERIES
NEW YORK (AP) – As Paul McCartney says of his time with The Beatles, “We were writing songs that were memorable because we had to remember them.” Now the rest of the world can tap into those memories. Hulu will run a six-part documentary series called “McCartney 3, 2, 1” in which McCartney listens to songs by The Beatles and Wings with music producer Rick Rubin and shares his memories. All six parts will be released July 16. McCartney also will release a book of lyrics annotated with his memories, called “The Lyrics,” on Nov. 2.

 

BRAD PAISLEY, SNOOP DOGG JOIN DISCOVERY FOR SHARK WEEK
NEW YORK (AP) – Brad Paisley and Snoop Dogg will be part of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel next week. Paisley will test whether music attracts or repels sharks on “Brad Paisley’s Shark Country,” airing on Tuesday. Snoop will narrate while sharks make crazy moves like leaping out of the water during “Sharkadelic Summer 2.” That airs next Thursday.

 

TENNESSEE MARKERS UNVEILED FOR BROOKS, COLLIE, VINCENT
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – The state of Tennessee is celebrating Kix Brooks, Mark Collie and Darrin Vincent of Dailey and Vincent with the unveiling of markers in their honor as part of the Tennessee Music Pathways program. Brooks’ marker was unveiled at his Arrington Vineyards in Arrington, Tennessee, on Tuesday. Collie’s marker was unveiled last Saturday in his hometown of Waynesboro. Vincent’s marker also was unveiled Saturday, in his hometown of Smithville.
