OSCARS PLANS SHAPING UP
UNDATED (AP) – This year’s Golden Globes were done as a bi-coastal affair, with hosts in New York and Los Angeles. When the Oscars are held, they will be bi-continental. Show producers say they will have an in-person ceremony on April 25 in Los Angeles, complete with red carpet arrivals. But it also says it will stage part of the event in the U.K. The concession is being made to quiet complaints from nominees who might not be able to come to the U.S. because of international travel restrictions due to the pandemic.
ESSENCE BLACK WOMEN IN HOLLYWOOD TO HONOR WHOOPI, OTHERS
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The last part of April may turn out to be quite a time for Andra Day. On April 22, the actress will receive an award at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood event. Others being honored include Zendaya and Whoopi Goldberg. Just three days later, Day is up for an Oscar. She’s nominated for best actress for the title role in the film, “The United States vs. Billie Holiday.” The Essence event will be livestreamed while the Oscars will be broadcast on ABC.
ARIANA GRANDE JOINING “THE VOICE”
NEW YORK (AP) – Ariana Grande is joining the lineup of “The Voice.” NBC says she will be serving as a coach when the fall season rolls around. The seat she will be taking is now occupied by Nick Jonas – and Grande will rotate in when Jonas steps aside. She will be joined next season by current regulars Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend.
REALITY SHOW CAST MEMBERS ARRESTED
NEW YORK (AP) – Two cast members of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” reality TV show have been arrested. Authorities say they were busted on federal charges that they cheated hundreds of people in a nationwide telemarketing scheme that spanned a decade. Authorities say Jennifer Shah, 47, and Stuart Smith, 43, were arrested in Utah on charges that were unsealed yesterday in New York City.
