A$AP ROCKY TESTIFIES AT HIS ASSAULT TRIAL IN SWEDEN

STOCKHOLM (AP) – A$AP Rocky says he did all he could to avoid a confrontation with two men following him in Stockholm – but ended up throwing hands at one of them when that man picked a fight with one of his bodyguards. The American rapper took the stand to testify on his behalf at his trial yesterday. He and two other members of his crew are charged with beating a 19-year-old man on June 30. But in his testimony, Rocky said the blows were struck in self-defense – and that the men who followed his entourage that night seemed to have been on drugs. The case has escalated into an international affair, with President Donald Trump stepping in in support of the rapper – and criticizing Swedish officials for not agreeing to his demand to release the rapper.

KATY PERRY ORDERED TO PAY CLOSE TO $3 MILLION FOR “DARK HORSE” RIP-OFF
LOS ANGELES (AP) – What started out as the struggle of an underdog has ended up with the underdog as a top dog. A Christian rap group has been awarded nearly $3 million dollars from Katy Perry and other defendants for swiping the group’s song to make her 2013 hit, “Dark Horse.” The award, of $2.78 million, was awarded by the same Los Angeles jury that ruled Monday that Perry had ripped off the song. The plaintiffs sought nearly $20 million in the case – but they say they’re happy to get what’s been awarded them. Perry’s attorney says there will be an appeal.

R. KELLY LAWYER SEEKS CLIENT’S FREEDOM, PENDING TRIAL
CHICAGO (AP) – R. Kelly wants out. But it remains to be seen whether the judge handling his case in Chicago are willing to let him go free, pending trial. An attorney for the R&B star wants the judge to take another look at his decision to keep Kelly behind bars while he awaits his child porn case. The Chicago Sun-Times reports an attorney for Kelly says the judge in the case can monitor Kelly’s movements if he’s given home confinement. Prosecutors object to the request, saying they believe the singer might try to contact witnesses in his case if he’s freed.

FOREIGN PRESS ASSOCIATION HOLDS GRANTS DINNER
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Some interesting back-and-forth between Regina Hall and Rob Lowe at the annual HFPA grants dinner. Apparently Hall has had a crush on Lowe – and she revealed that when she and Lowe shared a stage as presenters Wednesday night. Hall said she remembers “lying in my bed, praying to God that Rob Lowe would be on top of me.” And when she found she’d be working with Lowe, it was a sign that “prayers are answered. For his part, Lowe handled the situation gracefully, telling the audience at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association event, “”I’ve been Me Too’d, and I like it.”

UNIVERSAL ORLANDO TO EXPAND
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) – It’s enough to make your feet ache just thinking about it. Officials at Universal Orlando say they are looking to expand. Officials say the plans are to double the size of the resort. The company also says there are plans for what it calls an “epic” fourth theme park. But other than that, Universal didn’t elaborate. It says the competitive nature of the theme park business is what’s keeping them so mum about spreading the park-expansion details.
