SEXUAL MISCONDUCT – LIONSGATE
NEW YORK (AP) – The latest story of sexual harassment in Hollywood involves attorneys for the studio that did the “Hunger Games” and “Twilight” movies. Wendy Jaffe is a former lawyer at Lionsgate. And she says a powerful boss she saw as a father figure subjected her to nonconsensual sexual contact. Jaffe says general counsel Wayne Levin also demanded that she be his slave. She says she kept quiet about the alleged harassment for years – because she feared losing her job and giving up her hopes of working in entertainment again. Levin’s lawyer says neither he nor his client will discuss Jaffe’s allegations in the media.
CHRIS HARDWICK RETURNING TO AMC
NEW YORK (AP) – AMC host Chris Hardwick will be heading back to work at the network – this after an investigation into a claim of sexual assault by a former girlfriend. The network says putting Hardwick back on the air is the “appropriate step” after reviewing the claims. AMC says it conducted interviews with numerous people before deciding Hardwick could return to hosting “Talking Dead” and “Talking with Chris Hardwick.”
FRANCES McDORMAND’S OSCAR – TRIAL
LOS ANGELES (AP) – There will be a criminal trial for the man accused of walking off with Frances McDormand’s Oscar for best actress earlier this year. A Los Angeles judge ordered Terry Bryant to stand trial, ruling there was sufficient evidence to move the case forward. Bryant faces a felony grand theft charge. Lawyers for Bryant unsuccessfully argued that their client didn’t intend to keep the Oscar permanently – and that McDormand herself didn’t want the case prosecuted.
DONALD TRUMP – WALK OF FAME STAR
LOS ANGELES (AP) – For a second time, President Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame has been destroyed. And this time – like the last – someone has been arrested. Austin Clay is being held for investigation of felony vandalism. A pickaxe was found early yesterday morning at the crime scene along Hollywood Boulevard in L.A. The star is for Trump’s work on the TV show “The Apprentice.” The group that maintains the stars says the area will be covered until the Trump star can be repaired – again.
KENNEDY CENTER HONORS
WASHINGTON (AP) – Will he – or won’t he? For the second straight year, the question is being asked about President Donald Trump and the Kennedy Center Honors. Usually the president attends such events. But last year, Trump skipped the show – in part because several honorees threatened a boycott if he showed up. This year’s honorees include Cher, composer Phillip Glass, country music star Reba McEntire and jazz legend Wayne Shorter. Also being recognized are the musical “Hamilton” and its creator and former star, Lin-Manuel Miranda.
CNN REPORTER SAYS SHE WAS BARRED FROM WH EVENT
WASHINGTON (AP) – There’s been another dustup between the Trump White House and a member of the news media. This time, the beef involves CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins. She says she was barred from attending an open press event at the White House yesterday because of questions she asked President Donald Trump earlier in the day. The network says the White House determined Collins’ questions were “inappropriate.” During her work as a pool reporter yesterday, Collins asked if the president felt betrayed by his former personal lawyer releasing tapes of private discussions they had about making payments to a former Playboy model. The model says she had an affair with Trump before he was elected president.
