HERMAN BOONE, COACH OF “REMEMBER THE TITANS” FAME, DIES
UNDATED (AP) – The Virginia high school football coach who inspired the Disney movie “Remember the Titans” has died. Herman Boone’s daughter says her dad died yesterday after fighting cancer. He was 84 – and his daughter says even as his health was fading, he’d still draw up football plays. Boone led T.C. Williams High School to a state title in 1971, amid the early days of school desegregation. He was portrayed in “Titans” by Denzel Washington. The triumph in the Washington D.C. suburb of Alexandria was a factor in helping the city unite racially.

“STAR WARS” NEWCOMERS
LOS ANGELES (AP) – The “Star Wars” franchise has been around since 1977. But some new stars of the current version of the sci-fi classic weren’t even born when the first one came out. One of them, Naomi Ackie, says she hopes to remain in the cast as the story line takes different arcs. For Ackie, learning about the expectations on her was sobering. She says director J.J. Abrams told her there’d be “a lot of young black girls who are going to be really inspired” by her character. Ackie says “that kind of hit me in the chest.” “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker” hits theaters tomorrow.

“TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD” PLAYS THE GARDEN
NEW YORK (AP) – It’s always been a big Broadway hit. But now the stage production of “To Kill a Mockingbird” is hitting a big venue. Come February, the show takes a night off from being on Broadway – to play at Madison Square Garden, home of the New York Rangers and Knicks. It’s the first time MSG has hosted a Broadway play. As for tickets, they will be provided to 18,000 public school kids – free of charge.

CALIFORNIA STATE BAR SEEKS TO DISBAR MICHAEL AVENATTI
LOS ANGELES (AP) – For a time during the investigations into Donald Trump, it seemed Michael Avenatti was on TV almost as much as the president. Now, on the same day Trump is impeached, an attorney for the California state bar called for the attorney to be stripped of his license to practice law. Avenatti is charged with pocketing a client’s settlement and covering up the crime. Attorney Eli Morgenstern says the bar wants Avenatti put on involuntary inactive status – and eventually disbarred. For his part Avenatti denounces the impeachment hearing as a “complete joke.” The lawyer represented porn star Stormy Daniels in suits against Trump.

EX-CBS REPORTER LARA LOGAN SUING NEW YORK MAGAZINE
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Former “60 Minutes” correspondent Lara Logan is suing New York magazine over an article about her coverage of the attacks on Benghazi. The ex-CBS star is seeking $25 million in the suit, filed last week in Austin, Texas. The lawsuit claims the magazine article tarnished her career in retelling how her 2013 report on Benghazi was retracted by CBS News because of inaccuracies. A rep for the magazine says it stands by the story.
