JIMMY FALLON TAKES ON BLACK FRIDAY
NEW YORK (AP) – Just about any store with stuff to sell and a cash register has a Black Friday sale going on today. But in his monologue on “The Tonight Show” last night, Jimmy Fallon says there are some stores that have come up with special slogans for the day when they stop feasting on food – and try to gorge themselves on savings at the mall. Fallon noted that WalMart has come up with a Black Friday slogan warning customers that “It’s Basically MMA meets ‘The Purge’ Up in This Piece.” Fallon says Home Depot’s Black Friday slogan is, “We’ve Got Just One Employee and He Locked Himself in the Bathroom.” And he says the slogan for T.J. Maxx is “Don’t Panic, it ALWAYS Looks Like a Riot in here.”

MACY’S PARADE GOES FORTH – DESPITE WIND
NEW YORK (AP) – In the end, the wind didn’t ruin this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade – but it sure modified it. Police decided the event could go forward with its trademark helium-filled character balloons. But about an hour before the parade began, police decided that handlers had to keep the gigantic balloons tethered close to the ground. Some spectators lamented that they couldn’t see the balloons high in the sky, as is usually the case. Joining the balloons for the march toward Herald Square were celebrities like Celine Dion, Kelly Rowland and Ciara.

MACY’S BALLOON LINEUP HAD NEW, OLD AND REBOOTED FAVORITES
NEW YORK (AP) – It wasn’t exactly like getting a round of Botox treatments, but some of the giant balloons in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade clearly went in for a makeover before making their way through midtown Manhattan yesterday. Snoopy was back – but this time, he was decked out in an electric orange space suit. Also getting a makeover was the SpongeBob SquarePants balloon. One balloon that made a comeback was Smokey Bear. He’d been sidelined since 1993. Among the newcomers this year was a giant balloon for “Green Eggs and Ham,” the Dr. Seuss children’s classic.

McDONALD’S BALLOON SUFFERS MISHAP
NEW YORK (AP) – The McDonald’s balloon at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade ended up having to split the scene early – because of a split. Officials with Macy’s say the Ronald McDonald balloon was torn while it was being inflated. The balloon started the parade – but after a while, it had to bail – and was shunted off to a side street. Those who saw it early say Ronald had a deflated left leg and foot.

PHILADELPHIA THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE BALLOONS SCUTTLED
PHILADELPHIA (AP) – New York City may have dodged the high winds that threatened to keep its famous balloons making the rounds at yesterday’s parade. But Philadelphia proved too gusty for its balloons. None of the 15 inflatables was able to fly. The decision to ground the Philly balloons came after the National Weather Service forecast winds up to 30 mph and gusts up to 50 mph.

CELEBRITY CHEF GARY RHODES DIES
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) – Celebrity chef Gary Rhodes has died. He helped transform the somewhat stuffy reputation of British food. His family says in a statement that Rhodes died Tuesday – but didn’t provide a cause of death. He was 59. Rhodes starred in the TV show “Hell’s Kitchen” and was on “MasterChef” and “Rhodes Around Britain.”
