NBC TO AIR TRUMP FORUM TONIGHT, CREATING DUELING TOWN HALLS
NEW YORK (AP) – NBC News is facing criticism for its decision to host a town hall featuring President Donald Trump tonight. The forum is the same night ABC had already scheduled a town hall with Democratic candidate Joe Biden. What irks critics is that the separate forums were set up once Trump bailed on the second televised presidential debate after it was changed to a virtual forum because Trump had COVID-19. NBC’s counterprogramming has sparked online calls for a boycott of the network. Among the top critics are NBC employees. For example, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow had Biden’s running mate Kamala Harris on her show last night – and asked her if she was “as mad as everybody else” about the Trump town hall. Harris didn’t say.

JUDGE MULLING “CHEER” STAR JERRY HARRIS’ RELEASE
CHICAGO (AP) – Keep him behind bars – or let him go free, pending trial? That’s the decision a Chicago judge has to make in the case of Jerry Harris, star of the Netflix documentary series “Cheer.” And Heather McShain, says she will announce her decision soon. The bid for release comes from Harris’ attorneys, who want him on home confinement while awaiting trial on child pornography charges. But Illinois prosecutors want him kept in jail to keep him from getting his hands on smartphones. Harris is charged with using phones to send lewd images to children – and asking them to send him such images.

KANYE WEST TWEETS OUT BOGUS ELECTION RESULTS
UNDATED (AP) – What you heard from Kanye West WAS a test – one that turned out to be a big embarrassment for him. The rapper and independent presidential candidate tweeted election results showing him leading President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden in early voting in Kentucky. But the “results” were just random test data that The Associated Press routinely sends members before each election. The too-good-to-be-true numbers prompted West to gloat online, telling his followers, “GET THE WEST WING READY !!!” West’s three posts on the made-up election numbers were all flagged as “manipulated media” by Twitter.

CHRISSY TEIGEN GETS SONG PERFORMANCE DEDICATED TO HER BY HUSBAND, JOHN LEGEND
NEW YORK (AP) – Chrissy Teigen got some musical tenderness from her husband on TV last night. John Legend dedicated his performance of “Never Break” at the Billboard Music Awards to his wife, whose poignant social media posts about her miscarriage have captivated people. As he began the song he recorded for the awards show, Legend declared, “this is for Chrissy.” The song includes the lyrics “we will never break.” The emotional performance prompted host Kelly Clarkson to say, “John, that was so beautiful.”

LAILA ALI SPEAKS ABOUT ATHLETES SPEAKING OUT
NEW YORK (AP) – Laila Ali is applauding athletes who speak out on social issues. And she thinks her late father, Muhammad Ali, would, too. Ali hosted the Women’s Sports Foundation awards last night – held virtually because of the coronavirus. She told The Associated Press “all people should take a stand,” whether they’re famous or not. And she says while she doesn’t like to speak for her late dad, she’s sure he’d agree. Among those honored at the event were WNBA players – for raising awareness about the police killing of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky – Muhammad Ali’s hometown.
