TRUMP RETURNS TO WHITE HOUSE, RELEASES VIDEO ON TWITTER
WASHINGTON (AP) – It was a dramatic return to the White House for President Donald Trump. He walked out of Walter Reed military hospital in Maryland yesterday – and hopped aboard Marine One for a quick trip back to the White House. As he walked from the chopper, Trump flashed a thumbs-up and a wave, passing reporters and photographers. After climbing the stairs to the residence, Trump whipped off his face mask and saluted as the chopper left. He then walked inside – still mask-less – and was welcomed by aides. Trump’s Twitter feed later posted a clip of the arrival, complete with music. CNN reports that after most people left and before the clip went up, Trump did a second take of his return.
TRUMP’S RETURN TO WHITE HOUSE SPARKS ANGER, ANXIETY AMONG JOURNALISTS
WASHINGTON (AP) – The White House is probably the most closely guarded place on the planet. But some reporters who cover President Trump say they’re worried that his cavalier attitude toward the coronavirus may put them in danger from the disease. Moments after returning from the hospital where he’d been treated for COVID-19, Trump removed his face mask. Some journalists say that suggests they may be needlessly exposed to the virus by Trump, his aides and staff. The same day Trump was released, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany – who briefs reporters without wearing a mask – said she’d tested positive for COVID-19, too. And in recent days, three reporters have tested positive for the disease.
VICE PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE WILL SEE CANDIDATES SEPARATED
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Those watching tomorrow’s vice presidential debate in Salt Lake City will see more than just political views separating the candidates. Mike Pence and Kamala Harris will have a clear barrier between them to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19. An aide to the Democrats tells The Associated Press the request for the partition was made by their camp. A week ago, President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden squared off in their first presidential debate. Days later, Trump was hospitalized with COVID-19. Biden has taken several tests since then – all negative. Meanwhile, Pence has been exposed to Trump and others who have tested positive. Pence has tested negative.
REGAL MOVIE CHAIN TO TEMPORARILY SHUT DOWN
LONDON (AP) – The second-largest movie theater chain in the U.S. is shutting down for the time being. Regal will close its doors starting Thursday because it doesn’t have movies to draw fans. The move was announced by Regal’s parent company Cineworld, based in Britain. It’s another blow to the movie industry caused by the coronavirus. New York and Los Angeles theaters remain closed and those open elsewhere have limited seating. Fans are leery about going out to a movie during the pandemic. And even if they wanted to, studios have been holding back their blockbusters until the country opens up a bit wider.
