PRESIDENT, FIRST LADY HAVE TESTED POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS
WASHINGTON (AP) – The President of the United States has caught the coronavirus.
Donald Trump says he and first lady Melania Trump have tested positive for COVID-19. The president announced the news on Twitter early this morning. In the tweet around 1 a.m., Eastern Time, Trump sent the following message: “Tonight, (at)FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump is 74 – an age that medical experts have said puts him at higher risk of serious complications from a virus that has now killed more than 200,000 people.

TOP TRUMP AIDE HOPE HICKS TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19
WASHINGTON (AP) – Before the bombshell announcement that President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19, the big news was that one of the president’s top senior aides, Hope Hicks, had tested positive for the coronavirus. The aide had been traveling with the president several times this week. After confirming the news about Hicks, Trump said he and First Lady Melania were beginning a “quarantine process.” The diagnosis marks a major blow for a president who has been trying desperately to convince the American public that the worst of the pandemic is behind them – even as cases continue to rise as Election Day approaches next month. It is also the most serious known public health scare encountered by a sitting American president in recent history.

OTHER WORLD LEADERS AND COVID-19
UNDATED (AP) – President Donald Trump is not the only major world leader known to have contracted the virus. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson spent a week in the hospital, including three nights in intensive care. During his treatment, Johnson was given oxygen and watched around the clock by medical workers. German Chancellor Angela Merkel self-isolated after a doctor who gave her a vaccination tested positive for the virus. And for a time, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau worked from home after his wife fell ill.

CHRISSY TEIGEN, JOHN LEGEND MOURN LOSS OF BABY IN MISCARRIAGE
LOS ANGELES (AP) – For many, losing a child to a miscarriage is a sorrow that is often suffered alone, shared only with close friends and family members. But Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have been publicly mourning the loss of what would have been their third child. Many celebrities – and fans – have taken to social media to offer their support and condolences. In one of her social media posts, Teigen thanked those who have been sending what she described as “positive energy, thoughts and prayers.”

SHIA LABEOUF CHARGED WITH BATTERY, PETTY THEFT
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Shia LaBeouf has been charged with misdemeanor battery and petty theft. Prosecutors in Los Angeles allege that the 34-year-old actor fought with a man named Tyler Murphy and took his hat. A criminal complaint obtained by The Associated Press says the incident took place on June 12 – but the charges weren’t filed until Sept. 24. A representative for LaBeouf did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
