FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE BETWEEN TRUMP AND BIDEN SET FOR TONIGHT
NEW YORK (AP) – Lots of eyes will be focused on TV screens tonight as President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden lock horns in their first televised debate, to be held in Cleveland. And almost as many eyes will be focusing on the moderator, Chris Wallace, host of “Fox News Sunday.” Wallace’s ties to a network that often gives favorable coverage to Trump may be seen as an advantage to the incumbent by some. But others will remember that Wallace strenuously fact-checked Trump during an interview he did with him this summer. Wallace is the first Fox News journalist assigned to a debate. He says among the topics he plans to cover include the Supreme Court, the economy, social justice – and both candidates’ records.
TRUMP, LIKELY BIDEN, WILL ATTEND ANNUAL AL SMITH DINNER
NEW YORK (AP) – Tonight’s debate in Cleveland between President Donald Trump and challenger Joe Biden likely won’t be the only time the two end up at the same event this week. Trump is expected to attend the annual Al Smith Dinner, which is being held online. Biden is also expected to attend, though his campaign hasn’t officially confirmed that. Trump’s appearance will be his first at the Smith dinner since his election. The event will be scattered among various locations – to minimize the possibility of spreading the coronavirus.
TEXAS SHERIFF INDICTED IN INVESTIGATION INTO DEATH RECORDED BY “LIVE PD” REALITY SHOW
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – A Texas sheriff has been indicted in connection with the death of a Black man – one filmed by the police reality TV series “Live PD.” Prosecutors say Robert Chody was released on $10,000 bond after being booked yesterday. He faces a felony charge of destroying or concealing video in the death of Javier Ambler, who died after a traffic stop in which he was cited for allegedly failing to dim his headlights to oncoming traffic. The stop was filmed for A&E’s “Live PD,” which was canceled in June after the death of George Floyd. Footage from Ambler’s arrest never aired – and the network says it didn’t keep the video once an initial investigation was closed. A new, separate probe is under way to see whether excessive force caused Ambler’s death.
STEVE HARVEY REBOUNDS AFTER DAYTIME TALK SHOW CANCELED
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Steve Harvey says after his daytime talk show was canceled by NBC last year, he decided to keep things moving. And that attitude helped him land a new gig – with Facebook Watch. His show, “Steve on Watch,” had a successful first season. And the first shows of his second season have already begun streaming. It isn’t like he was hurting for work when his NBC show went away. Harvey hosts the game show “Family Feud” – and serves as host for several recurring broadcasts, including the annual Miss Universe pageant.
