NEW YORK (AP) – Just in time for the stretch run of the presidential race, Shepard Smith returns to TV. The former Fox News Channel anchor returns with a nightly newscast on Wednesday at 7 p.m. It will air on the financial network CNBC. The move puts him back in a time slot he once owned on Fox, before the network shunted him to afternoons seven years ago. Almost a year ago Smith bolted from Fox, declaring in his final broadcast that “truth will always matter.” Smith says in his new gig, he plans to “come out and do just the news” – with little analysis during his news hour.

Officials with the Indian government say the actors have been summoned to go before the Narcotics Control Board to answer questions about the alleged scandal. The narcotics agency launched the Bollywood drug probe after the death of young actor Sushant Singh Rajput – whose body was found at his home in June. His case remains under investigation.

JOE MONTANA CONFRONTS HOME INTRUDER
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Usually when a quarterback is involved with an interception, it isn’t a good thing. But in this case, it had a happy ending – as Hall of Fame star Joe Montana broke up an effort to kidnap his 9-month grandchild. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department says the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback reported his grandchild was sleeping in a playpen Saturday when an unknown woman entered their Malibu home and grabbed the child. Montana and his wife Jennifer confronted the woman and asked her to return the baby. After a brief tussle, Jennifer Montana pried the child out of the woman’s arms. The woman fled but was later arrested – and now faces kidnapping and burglary charges. Meanwhile Montana is thanking those who have reached out to him – and asks that his privacy be respected at this time.
