Grant Program to support teachers, schools, and early childhood education. Children are taught about the food they eat and how it’s grown. The grants will provide resources to support the development of new and existing farm-to-school projects and increase the number of relationships between local farmers and schools. Ashe & Watauga County kids are eligible.

High Country Local First and Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture’s Lettuce Learn Program to offer grant funding to support school gardening initiatives in Ashe and Watauga Counties! Farm-to-school grant awards will total $1,500 and will be given to local schools and preschools interested in building or expanding their garden-based education programming.

The grant is funded and managed by a partnership between Boone-based organizations, High Country Local First and Blue Ridge Women in Agriculture.  For more information about the High Country Local First Farm-to-School Grant program and to apply for the grant, please visit: www.brwia.org/hclf-farm-to-school-grant

Funding for the High Country Local First Farm-to-School Grant Program comes from success generated from sales of Local First Rewards Cards. For every Local First Rewards Card sold, High Country Local First donates $5 to support local school garden programs in Watauga and Ashe Counties. Ashe County Habitat for Humanity: ReSale, Live- Read Script Saturday, February 24th @ 11:00 am. Sale will be February 24th from 9 am to 2 pm. The showroom is located on Beaver Creek School Road near Nation’s Inn in West Jefferson. Selection of gently used furniture, appliances, doors, windows and much more. The ReSale showroom is open every Monday from 9 to 2. Come browse! All proceeds benefit Ashe County Habitat for Humanity.

PALM SUNDAY CANTATA: Sunday, March 25 at 3pm Mt. Jefferson Presbyterian Church in West Jefferson will be performing “At the Ninth Hour” by Alan Pote and Tom S. Long. Cantata will include Choir and musicians. It is free and open to the public. A reception with refreshments will follow the cantata. Contact the church at 336-846-7481 for more information. The Ashe Ministerial Association (AMA) will sponsor Holy Week Services on Monday, March 26th through Friday, March 30th, 2018. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in West Jefferson. A thirty-minute worship service at 12 noon, followed by lunch with soup and sandwiches. NO charge for the meal but donations will be accepted that will go to support local missions. Worship led by ministers and musicians from participating area churches. Everyone Welcome for this celebration of Easter.


A $750 scholarship is offered by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Administrative Professionals Association (NCCEAPA) through March 16, 2018. Scholarship is available to North Carolina residents pursuing a college degree in business or a business-related field of study. Scholarship is awarded annually. Qualified applicants can obtain an application packet from the financial aid office at their local community college or High School Counselor.
