BOONE, N.C. – Appalachian State softball opens Sun Belt Conference play at home this season with a series against the UL Monroe Warhawks on Saturday, March 10 at 1 & 3 p.m. and Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m.
The Mountaineers are 10-10 overall. This is the second season in a row that the Apps head into conference play with a .500 record or above. Last year, App State was 10-8 before the first Sun Belt Conference series against Louisiana was cancelled due to weather.
The Apps look to continue their winning streak through the weekend. The last six games resulted in wins for the Mountaineers against Tennessee Tech and Norfolk State.
Jenny Dodd is a force to be reckoned with in the batter’s box. In the past six games, she has gone 11-17 to bring her season batting average to .409. All four of her home runs this season were in the Apps’ last six wins. Keri White follows with a .355 batting average. White is responsible for 12 of the Mountaineers’ 91 runs so far this season with 11 RBIs.
Haley Stewart, Baylee Morton and Dodd each hit at least one homer earlier in the week against Norfolk State. Stewart sent her first grand slam over the wall in the Apps’ 9-0 shutout of the Spartans. She contributes a team-high 13 RBIs.
Four of five Mountaineer pitches earned wins early in the week – Katie Williford, Kenzie Longanecker, Callie Kuykendall and Annaleise Kennedy. Longanecker, Kuykendall and Kennedy all threw complete games.
