SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. (AP) – Police are investigating after the body of a pregnant woman was found in a car in North Carolina. Southern Pines police say the victim was 18-year-old Aiyonna Clarice Barrett of Sanford. Barrett’s body was found around 8 p.m. Sunday in a car on a dirt road in Southern Pines. The unborn child she was carrying also died. No arrests have been reported.

 

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – Health officials in North Carolina want to inspect a birthing center where three newborns have died in the last six months. The Department of Health and Human services wants to inspect Baby+Co. in Cary and review patient records and company policies. The company says it welcomes the review. The state does not regulate free-standing birthing centers.

 


CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) – A fourth teen has been charged with murder in a robbery shooting death in North Carolina’s largest city. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say a 16-year-old female turned herself in to officers Sunday. She is also charged with armed robbery. Police say 36-year-old Maria Echeverria de Gomez was shot during a robbery at an apartment complex April 3.

 

JACKSON, Ohio (AP) – The military says the remains of a Navy seaman from Ohio who died in the 1941 attack at Pearl Harbor during World War II have been identified. The Defense Department says the remains of 25-year-old Navy Seaman 2nd Class Frank Wood, of Jackson, Ohio, will be buried Saturday with full military honors in Franklin, North Carolina. Officials say DNA analysis and dental comparisons helped confirm Wood’s remains.
